Tweed coat with raglan sleeves

Dos o tres años después de comenzarlo (en realidad he perdido la cuenta), por fin, he acabado mi queridísimo abrigo de tweed con mangas raglan. Este modelo es una copia mejorada de uno de Maison Scotch que ví en un escaparate en una tienda de Vila-Real que me encanta, Corner.

Two or three years ago ( I don´t remember exactly...) I started this coat... and finally... Here it is!!!    When I saw a Maison Scotch coat in a shop in my town I completely felt in love! This a improved version of that one.

En cuanto lo ví, me encantó... manga raglán, cuello a la caja, forma ligeramente de globo... y la fabulosa mezcla de una tela clásica como el tweed y algo más moderno como el polipiel y las cremalleras de dientes de metal. Pero varios inconvenientes... el precio y que para más INRI el porcentaje de poliéster del tejido era altísimo...

I loved it because of its raglan sleeves, its type of collar, its balloon shape... and the fabulous mix between tweed and imitation leather, and of course... the metal zips, my favorite ones!!. But I didm´t like its price and the high percentage of polyester of the main fabric.

Así que más chula que un ocho, sin haber hecho nunca antes un abrigo, pensé "¡eso me lo coso yo en un plis plás!" (debió ser un ramalazo castizo de esos que me quedan de mis tiempos mozos en Madrid, jajaja).

I obviously taught... "I can do it better" ( I thing that these kind of cocky behaviors come from my period living in Madrid!)

Lo primero que hice es ir a Julián López de Castellón, y aproveché las rebajas para encontrar un tejido de tweed, 100% lana, que me encantó en cuanto lo ví. Yo ya me imaginaba el abrigo, y a mí misma luciéndolo con mil looks...

I went to one of my favorite fabric shop in Spain on sales and I got a fabulous tweed 100% wool. I could imagine right away the coat, and thousands of amazing looks...


PATRÓN:
PATTERN

Delantero

El patrón sufrió varias modificaciones para conseguir la forma más o menos deseada y luego en la prueba también hubo bastantes rectificaciones. Hoy eso no me pasaría... Jamás cortaría un abrigo sin antes probarlo en calico, JAMÁS!

I made many changes in the pattern and during the fitting as well until I got the shape I liked. Nowadays, I would never do that. I would never cut the main fabric without doing the garment in calico.

• Holgura en cuerpo y mangas de al menos 2,5cm según creo recordar. Allowance of 2,5cm aprox in body and sleeve.
• Manga raglán. Raglan sleeve.
• Cuello caja. No collar.

• Quité las pinzas con la transformación a patrón flojo del Método Martí. No darts.
• Dibujé la ubicación de los bolsillos, para ver si ese era el look deseado para el abrigo. I draw the pockets in the pattern, just for checking the look.
• Costura en centro espalda, que me servirá, junto con las costuras laterales para dale la forma globo. I used the side seams and the center back for shaping the coat, like a balloon.

CONFECCIÓN:

DRESSMAKING.

• Como todos los tweeds, es un tejido de trama muy abierta (flojo, para entendernos). Así que para evitar bolsa, como coderas, entretelé toda la tela con entretela de pegar fina. Ahora seguramente no lo haría así, usaría entretela pero no de pegar, cuestión de gustos. This tweed is so soft, I interlined all the fabric with a fusible interlining. Nowadays I would use another kind of interlining.
• Coser y planchas abiertas todas las costuras. No hace falta remallar porque el abrigo irá forrado. I saw and ironed the seams opened. You don´t need to overlock them because you will line the coat.

Detalle de entretelado e interior de bolsillos

• Los bolsillos son bolsillos de sastrería, con la diferencia que los bienes son de polipiel y llevan también cremallera. Esto de la cremallera le añade un plus de complejidad, debes calcular bien el ancho de la apertura en el abrigo y coser varias capas lo cual aumenta el grosor (hay que tener mucho cuidado para que el resultado sea fino). I made tailored pockets, with imitation leather bias and metal zip. This us quite tricky because of the thickness of all the materials put together.

• El cirre del abrigo es con cremallera, con lo cual no lleva cruce. The coat is closed with a zip, no buttons.

• He hecho las vistas del mismo tejido que el principal (por supuesto, también entreteladas).

• Para cortar el forro se usa el mismo patrón que para la tela principal. Lo cosemos a máquina y lo montamos por supuesto a mano. El forro me lo regalaron en Julián López, todo un detalle. For the lining I used the same pattern of the main fabric (you must work always this way). I sewed it with my singer and I stitched it to the garment by hand stitching, as usual. The lining was a present form the shop, thanks!.

Estoy muy contenta con el resultado, para ser el primer abrigo que empecé, el resultado es más que aceptable. Hoy cambiaría algunas cosillas, pero eso queda para mí...

I am happy with the result! This is the first coat I started (and the last I finished too... I made two between these milestones...) and It looks cool (almost for me!).

Todavía no lo he estrenado, pero sí me lo he probado mil veces y me lo he imaginado con varios looks otras mil. Espero que os guste tantísimo como a mí!.

I haven´t worn it yet, but I have tried it lots of times and I have imagined it with many looks thousands of times too!. I hope you like it, as much as I do!
